Minor Piercing Policy
At The Zap Bar, the safety of our clients is our highest priority. All piercings performed on minors are strictly governed by the Florida Department of Health, and we follow these regulations carefully to ensure every procedure is performed legally, ethically, and safely. These requirements are not optional — they are state-mandated health guidelines designed to protect both the minor and the parent or guardian.
For any client under the age of 18, a parent or legal guardian must be physically present at the appointment. The parent or guardian must present a valid, government-issued photo ID at the time of service. In addition, the Florida Department of Health requires a notarized Minor Consent Form to be completed prior to the piercing appointment. This form must be properly notarized and can be downloaded by clicking the button below. We also will require any parent r guardian to fill out a quick customer record for the minor prior to piercing.
We are unable to proceed with a piercing if any required documentation is missing, incomplete, or improperly notarized. These policies ensure that informed consent is clearly documented and that all legal guardianship requirements are properly verified.
We understand that piercings are often meaningful milestone moments — especially for first-time lobe piercings — and we are committed to making the process smooth, professional, and comfortable while remaining fully compliant with Department of Health standards. If you have any questions regarding minor eligibility or required documentation, we are happy to assist you prior to booking
Adult Piercing Policy
At The Zap Bar, all adult piercings are performed in full compliance with the regulations set forth by the Florida Department of Health. These standards are in place to ensure proper documentation, client safety, and professional accountability for every procedure performed in our studio.
For clients 18 years of age and older, a notarized consent form is not required. However, all adults must present a valid, government-issued photo ID at the time of their appointment. This identification is required to verify age and confirm eligibility for piercing services.
In addition, the Florida Department of Health requires that every adult client complete a Customer Record Form prior to their piercing. This form documents informed consent, medical disclosures, and procedural acknowledgment, and must be completed before any service is performed. This documentation helps ensure transparency, proper health screening, and compliance with state regulations.
We are unable to proceed with a piercing if a valid ID is not presented or if the required Customer Record Form is not completed in full. These policies protect both our clients and our studio while maintaining the highest professional standards.
At The Zap Bar, your safety, comfort, and compliance with Department of Health guidelines are always our priority. If you have any questions about identification or documentation requirements prior to your appointment, our team is happy to assist you.

Before you get pierced
To ensure the best possible experience, we recommend eating a light meal and drinking plenty of fluids before your appointment. Being well-hydrated and nourished helps stabilize blood sugar and can reduce the chance of feeling lightheaded during or after your piercing. We also suggest avoiding excessive caffeine or alcohol prior to your appointment, as both can increase sensitivity, elevate heart rate, and in some cases contribute to increased bleeding.
Please be sure to disclose any history of prior piercing complications, difficulty healing, keloid or hypertrophic scarring, fainting episodes, or a history of excessive bleeding. This information allows us to take appropriate precautions and ensure your piercing is performed as safely and comfortably as possible. Your health and safety are always our top priority.

Piercing Aftercare
Proper aftercare is essential for healthy healing and long-lasting results. Every piercing creates a small wound, and how you care for it in the weeks and months that follow will directly impact how well it heals. We recommend cleaning your piercing twice daily using a sterile saline solution. Gently saturate the area and allow it to air dry or pat dry with clean gauze. Do not twist, spin, or excessively handle the jewelry, as unnecessary movement can irritate the tissue and delay healing. Always wash your hands thoroughly before touching your piercing.
Avoid sleeping directly on fresh ear piercings, as pressure can cause swelling and irritation. Try to keep hair products, makeup, and skincare products away from the area during the initial healing phase. Swimming in pools, lakes, rivers, or hot tubs should be avoided while the piercing is still healing, as these environments can introduce bacteria. Jewelry should not be changed until the piercing is fully healed, even if it appears healed on the outside. Healing occurs from the inside out.
General healing times vary depending on placement. Lobe piercings typically heal in approximately 6–8 weeks. Helix and flat piercings generally take 3–6 months. Conch piercings often require 4–9 months. Nostril piercings typically heal within 3–6 months. Individual healing times may vary based on anatomy, lifestyle, and aftercare consistency.
If you experience prolonged redness, excessive swelling, unusual discharge, or discomfort that seems abnormal, please contact us for guidance. We are always happy to support you throughout your healing journey to ensure your piercing heals beautifully and safely.
